Black chokeberry, also known as Aronia melanocarpa, is a deciduous shrub reaching 3-6 feet in height. It features glossy, dark green leaves that turn vibrant purple, red, and orange in the fall. White flowers bloom in spring, followed by small, dark purple-black berries in late summer. The berries are known for their tart and bitter taste and are rich in anthocyanins.
